Materialising concept and form:
The materiality of the sculpture generates, through the use of brick, a vocabulary around the wall. Because the form is open, the wall does not separate, but rather protects, like a shell. The choice of glazed ceramic bricks provides an architectural contrast to the stone tiles used on the façade of the Elyx building. The 4x4x8 cm brick also gives the sculpture a human scale and a precious appearance. Glazed ceramic is an extremely durable material. Une structure en acier défini la forme et supporte les briquettes. This constructive system also makes the sculpture lighter.
Colours and finishes of the sculpture :
The touches of colour range from blue to green, referring to the Green Urban city as a reminder of water and nature. These two elements are an integral part of the sculpture’s environment, along with the pond and trees in Malou Park. The colours add vibrancy to the building’s clean, monochrome façade. The ceramic, with its glazed appearance, illuminates the façade with a play of shine and reflection. Night-time lighting changes the way the sculpture is perceived, projecting touches of colour onto the façade.
A concept based on water, nature and the architecture of the building:
The sculpture has a simple, dynamic and uncluttered form, generating an upward movement through its curve towards the sky. This movement responds to the verticality of the Elyx building. The curvature of the form allows a glimpse of its interior, like a shell. This relationship of intimacy is in keeping with that of the large bay windows, which reveal a little of the interior of the flats. The position of the sculpture, parallel to the entrance, gives the impression that you can step inside, creating an imaginary world in the minds of visitors.
