The project consists of five sculptures that interact with each other and with the site. These sculptures are intended to enhance, structure and give meaning to the site. They follow the green spaces of the parking lot, without encroaching on the use and/or exhibition areas of the parking lot and forecourt.
The blue sculpture is a signpost for the town of Braine l’Alleud. It consists of two slender elements that brush against each other without touching. It symbolizes the plastic and musical disciplines that rub shoulders between the art school (with its entrance set back from the façade, at the point of the alley dividing the parking lot in two) and the music academy (whose entrance is marked by the projecting rectangular volume set back from the main façade).
The arched sculpture welcomes artists and visitors alike. It is in keeping with the most frequently used route to the forecourt of the School of the Arts, while at the same time contributing to the composition of the central alleyway centered on the building’s entrance. This central aisle is emphasized by a second sculpture, which is oriented towards the music academy. This second sculpture communicates with the third, smaller sculpture, located in the extension of the music academy’s entrance volume.
The corten steel sculpture expresses the link between the music academy and the art school. The sculpture is like a rolled-up sheet of steel that opens up and points to the sky. It symbolizes the artists’ introspection, which is exposed to the public.
The white sculptures display a musical language similar to sheet music. The curves of all the sculptures dance with each other and, depending on the perspective, enliven the building’s symmetrical façade. Their dynamism conveys the artistic effusion present within the walls of these two institutions.
