The shape of water

2018-2019
La forme de l’eau is a set of two sculptures and two pedestals evoking water. The large sculpture is made of 3,700 small featherboard bricks, the small sculpture is made of plaster and the two pedestals are made of wood fibre.
The large sculpture represents a whirlpool of water, a cloud of steam; the constituent elements of water are visible, the shape of the water appears through its molecular structure set in motion.
The small sculpture is inspired by a wave or an aquatic animal. If it is a wave, the shape of the water is given by the movement of the water on a larger scale, and if it is an animal, then the shape of the water is the consequence of the hydrodynamic character necessary for the movement of aquatic fauna.
The blue base symbolises the sea or an aquarium, with the water taking the shape of its container and gravity levelling its surface.
The white base is similar to a block of ice, an iceberg or snow, with the shape of the water given by its solid state. The plinths, by virtue of their support function, take on the capacity of water to carry.
