RENAISSANCE FOUNTAIN
Location and concept

The name Fleurus is thought to come from Fleder or Fledera plus the Celtic suffix aus, which gave Flederaus, by contraction Fleeraus, Fleraus, then later Flerues, Fleruis, Flerus, and finally Fleurus.
The Celtic word Fledera, formed from the root Fled and the hydronymic suffix era, a weakening of ara, was used to designate a watercourse.
Fledera probably referred to the stream that ran through Fleurus, which was larger than it is today. (Source: Wikipedia).

Today, this stream is called the Martinrou and is channelled under the town of Fleurus. The aim of the fountain is to remind the people of Fleurus of the presence of this stream, which gave rise to the name of their town.

The concept of the fountain is therefore to break up this canalisation to free up the watercourse.
