At the heart of the new building of the Belgian Chemical Union (UCB), a sculptural work embodies the innovative spirit of genetic research. This artistic creation evokes the beauty of science while introducing a dynamic dimension to the space.
Inspired by the double-helix structure of DNA, the sculpture rises into the hall, spreading two wings that symbolize the protection and sacredness of life. This unfurling towards infinity represents the perpetual expansion of medical knowledge.
In the building’s lobby, this sculpture resonates with the innovative nature of genetic research, creating a high-tech link reminiscent of cutting-edge laboratories. The vertical lines of the wood cladding are softened by the organic curves of the work, breaking the monotony.
A key element of this composition is a column in the hall. This column supports the work, integrating harmoniously into the composition while creating a fluid scenography.
The sculpture, centered around the column in the middle of the hall, extends in two directions: on one side towards the waiting areas and on the other towards the reception desk. This double flow intuitively guides visitors through the spatial organization of the lobby, offering a fluid, welcoming experience from the moment they arrive.
