Jean BOGHOSSIAN & Gilles LIBERT
“The Echo of Imprints”
For the 31st monumental exhibition at Square Armand Steurs, Jean Boghossian and Gilles Libert have created a sculpture sprawling over 110 m². This sculpture unfolds like waves of steel, inviting the viewer’s gaze to get lost in its curves. The layout of the park offers various vantage points from which to admire it, including an aerial view that reveals its plan: two intertwined fingerprints harmoniously blending to evoke the identities of both artists.
Integration into Jean Boghossian’s artistic vision
Jean Boghossian’s work is characterized by his exploration of fire as both a destructive and creative force. His use of combustion techniques to transform materials into works of art touches on themes of memory, transformation, and the ephemeral nature of existence. Just as the burnt pages of his books emerge, the burnt-edged steel sheets rise from the ground, symbolizing the birth of history from its ashes.
Integration into Gilles Libert’s artistic vision
Gilles Libert’s artistic vision, which merges sculpture with architecture, along with his deep knowledge of materials and use of parametric tools, adds a profound dimension to the artwork. His approach often explores the interaction of natural forces, creating organic forms that evoke elements of nature with a sense of movement and fluidity. His ability to transform raw materials into evocative shapes that resonate with the surrounding environment through form or symbolism allows the sculpture to become a living part of its existing surroundings.
