Esthesis; Greek feminine noun; origin of the French adjective esthétique.
Aesthetics refers to beauty; esthesis is based on the ability to feel.
Where does the common meaning of aesthetics come from? How do we feel? The two artist-architects, Gilles Libert and Christina Moschou, propose to return to the origins of aesthetics by plunging the viewer into a contemplative space where time seems suspended.
Gilles Libert’s monumental steel sculptures invite discovery, play and meditation. Through their form and symbolism, his works engage in dialogue with the place in which they are set. They are generally inspired by the observation of moving phenomena in nature. By freeze-framing an event in action, the artist freezes subtle, futile forms before materializing them. Her design processes, combining sculpture, architecture and digital technology, create dynamic, sensory spaces where steel unfolds around the viewer.
Christina Moschou sketches out a visual narrative with a minimalist, geometric aesthetic made up of paintings and bas-reliefs. An intimate journey through familiar yet mysterious architectural landscapes, where a human silhouette evokes the metaphysical universe of these paintings. A delicate ribbon breaks the immutable aspect of the scene in a movement that binds the elements together, allegorizing the sensations that link the human being to his or her context. His work, naturally influenced by his Greek origins and Mediterranean colors and images, weaves together the ancient and the modern, the real and the imaginary.
The Esthesis exhibition offers an immersion into two worlds, distinct in their aesthetics but similar in their approach, seeking balance and harmony at every stage of the composition.
